MAO CHA from WANG ZI SHAN ANCIENT TREES 2023

ORIGIN
This tea comes from Wang Zi Shan area in the Yibang mountains, which is located in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, China. Yibang is one of the most famous ancient tea regions in Yunnan famous for its exceptional quality tea made from ancient tea trees. Altitude above sea level 850 - 1900 meters. Known for its aromatics, sweet taste, and strong Cha Qi this tea is considered as high-quality and hunted by many Pu'Er tea connoisseurs. Our Mao Cha is made from ancient tea trees grown at an altitude of about 1500-1900 m.
Spring harvest, traditional handmade processing.

Mao Cha translates as "rough tea" and means that this tea is unfinished and is in an intermediate stage of production. This term is used for a tea material that is ready to be steamed and pressed in case of Sheng (Raw) Pu'Er production or further fermentation process during Shu (Ripe) Pu'Er production. This type of tea is also used for blending and further storage before being pressed into 'cakes'.

ORGANOLEPTICS
Dry tea leaves have a bright, sweet, deep, and expressive aroma. Vegetable, woody, and honey notes evoke associations of a warm summer day on the shore of a pond. After warming up, the aroma continues with fruity, marmalade motifs. Here you can find wild berries and exotic fruits like mango and passion fruit. Very sweet and noble aroma. After rinsing, the aroma reveals berry, vegetable, and citrus notes. There is fresh tree bark and strawberries! I always recommend to start brewing this kind of young Sheng (Raw) Pu'Er with cooler water, like 90 degrees, to enjoy the first, gentle brews before you start using hot water!

The taste is soft, delicate, and at the same time deep, with a long, multifaceted aftertaste. Honey, herbs and wood evoke associations of a summer country house. With further brewing, the taste goes into more woody, nutty, mushroom tones, with a restrained but obvious fruity, wine aftertaste. The infusion is light amber. Thanks to high-quality raw materials harvested from wild ancient tea trees, tea has powerful energy and great potential for aging with further flavor transformations. Fragrant and sweet, deep and multifaceted! This is the very case when words are not able to describe experiences, because such tea is, first of all, an experience!
