ORIGIN
Vietnam is known as one of the oldest tea regions in the world, with a vast area of ancient tea trees spreading from northeast to northwest. Hà Giang province is located in the northeast part of Vietnam on the border with Yunnan province, China. This region is famous for its wild ancient trees grown here for hundreds and even thousands of years. The unique climate, high altitude, rich soil, and high level of humidity create an excellent environment for tea trees to grow, which gives this tea a particularly special character and taste. This is a homeland of different minorities like Vietnamese, H'Mông, Tay, Kinh, Nung, Dao, and others, who traditionally use tea leaves as medicine and take care of the tea trees.
This tea ended up in our collection thanks to its original taste and character, and also because of my great faith in its further transformation. Visually, this tea looks like a wonderful modern version of antique Sheng (Raw) Pu'Er made during pre-communist China. The same era that gave us some of the best teas on planet Earth, or at least the best Pu'Er that have survived to this day. In the majority, of course, this is the result of proper and very long storage, but quality and processing are also very important.
ORGANOLEPTICS
Large leaves of old trees grown in Tây Côn Lĩnh area, Hà Giàng Province, Vietnam. Processed using traditional technology and pressed into 350 g cakes. The tea consists of large leaves from the late spring harvest. The pressing is quite strong, which allows this tea to be stored in the humid Vietnamese climate. Despite this, the tea can be easily separated with a knife into individual leaves.
The aroma of dry leaves is light, with notes of old furniture and a wooden house. Warmed leaf reveals minty, herbal motifs, promising a very interesting tea experience. After rinsing, the aroma transforms into citrus and medicinal notes with the freshness of an herbal infusion. The taste is light, fresh, and sweet. At the same time, the character of young Hei Cha with hints of spices and coffee beans. Bakery notes, when quickly poured, transform into a rich herbal mixture, leaving a long sweet, minty aftertaste!
This tea has a huge flavor potency, rich colour, texture, graininess, astringency, and bitterness, which over time should transform into an interesting and authentic tea.
