ABOUT
Zhu Ye Qing, meaning “Green Bamboo Leaf,” is a distinguished Chinese green tea cultivated in the sacred mist-laden slopes of Emei Mountain in Sichuan Province. Though it was only officially named and commercialized in the 1960s, Zhu Ye Qing draws from centuries of tea cultivation tradition in the Emei region, which has been a center of Buddhist culture and herbal knowledge since the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD). Legend holds that ancient Buddhist monks cultivated tea on Emei's slopes for meditation and its subtle healing properties. The tea’s name, evocative of its leaves' slender, bamboo-like shape, was bestowed by Marshal Chen Yi, a famed poet and revolutionary leader, in 1964, further enhancing its cultural prestige. Since then, Zhu Ye Qing has risen to represent the refinement and quiet power of Sichuan’s highland teas, often presented as a gift of state or a symbol of regional excellence.

TERROIR
Grown on Emei Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Zhu Ye Qing thrives at 800 to over 1,500 meters. The terroir is exceptional, with abundant rainfall, frequent mists, and ancient mineral-rich soils that provide a rare microclimate that yields leaves of remarkable tenderness and complexity. The surrounding biodiversity, protected as part of Emei’s ecological conservation, plays a crucial role in natural pest management and soil enrichment, contributing to the tea's clean and layered flavor. Harvest begins in early spring, with the most prized Zhu Ye Qing plucked just before the Qingming Festival. Only the earliest buds and tender leaves are selected, meticulously picked, and pan-fired using traditional methods that preserve their taste's vibrant green color and crystalline clarity.

Ming Shan #9 is a modern tea cultivar developed in Mingshan District, a region with a long history of tea cultivation, particularly around Mount Emei. It was selected and propagated for its suitability to high-quality green tea production, especially for teas like Emei Zhu Ye Qing. Botanically, it belongs to the Camellia sinensis small-leaf group, characterized by relatively fine, tender buds and uniform growth. This cultivar is valued for its early sprouting, consistent yield, and clean processing behavior, which makes it well suited for precise handcrafting and modern controlled production. In terms of cup profile, Ming Shan #9 is known for producing a refined and stable liquor with a smooth texture, gentle sweetness, and a clear, fresh aroma. Its relatively balanced chemical composition allows for a soft umami presence without excessive bitterness, supporting the elegant and composed style typical of high-grade Sichuan green teas.

ORGANOLEPTIC
The dry leaf appearance is precise and elegant, with slender, needle-like buds of a uniform deep green color and a smooth, polished surface. The aroma of the dry leaves is clean and refined, expressing soft vegetal freshness with delicate hints of bamboo leaves and a light sweet undertone. In a preheated gaiwan, the tea gradually opens, the aroma becoming warmer and more layered, revealing notes of steamed greens, young beans, and a subtle creamy softness. After a brief rinse, the leaves fully awaken, and the aromatic profile becomes more expressive and rounded, combining fresh spring greenery with gentle floral nuances and a refined natural sweetness.

The aroma of the liquor in the empty cup is clear and transparent, with a soft, airy sweetness and light warm tones that emphasize purity and balance. The taste is smooth, soft, and well-structured, with a calm and elegant texture. From the first sips, a gentle sweetness and light umami emerge, followed by fresh vegetal notes reminiscent of tender greens and bamboo shoots, supported by a subtle floral accent. The aftertaste is clean, refreshing, and persistent, with a delicate returning sweetness and a composed, harmonious finish. In the empty cup after drinking, a light sweet-vegetal aroma remains, accompanied by faint creamy and floral nuances.
