DA YU LING GAO SHAN WULONG

ABOUT
Da Yu Ling Gao Shan Wulong is a Taiwanese high-mountain tea produced in Da Yu Ling, Taichung, Taiwan. It is made from the Qing Xin cultivar, renowned for producing some of the country's most refined and expressive high-elevation teas. This particular tea is cultivated at an altitude of around 2,600 meters, where the cool alpine climate, frequent mountain mist, and slow leaf development contribute to exceptional aromatic complexity and natural sweetness.

The production follows the traditional wulong method, including withering, shaking, partial oxidation, fixation, rolling, and drying. Harvested during the spring season, the leaves are processed with a relatively light oxidation to preserve their vibrant floral character, elegant freshness, and remarkable purity. Then they are rolled into compact shapes, allowing the leaves to gradually unfurl and reveal new layers of aroma and flavor throughout multiple infusions.

Da Yu Ling Gao Shan Wulong is regarded as one of the highest expressions of Taiwanese high-mountain tea. It is prized for its exceptional elegance, silky texture, pronounced mineral character, and remarkable balance, offering a refined cup with persistent floral aromas, natural sweetness, and a long, refreshing finish.

TERROIR
This alpine environment is defined by low temperatures, persistent mountain mist, high humidity, and pronounced day-night temperature variation. These conditions significantly slow the growth cycle of the tea plants, allowing for a gradual accumulation of aromatic compounds while preserving exceptional freshness, sweetness, and purity in the leaf.

The gardens are situated on steep mountain slopes with well-drained, mineral-rich soils that provide stable growing conditions despite the demanding environment. Frequent cloud cover, diffused sunlight, and constant mountain airflow regulate photosynthesis throughout the season, while the prolonged growth period encourages a refined balance between amino acids and polyphenols. Compared to teas grown at lower elevations, these conditions produce leaves with greater aromatic concentration, a softer structure, and remarkable clarity.

The unique composition of leaves grown in Da Yu Ling responds exceptionally well to the traditional wulong production method, allowing delicate oxidation to preserve the tea's natural elegance while revealing its layered floral aromas, silky texture, and distinctive mineral character. This close relationship between origin and craftsmanship is what has established Da Yu Ling as one of the finest expressions of Taiwanese high-mountain tea.

ORGANOLEPTICS
The dry leaf is tightly rolled into compact, semi-spherical pellets, displaying a rich emerald-green color with a vibrant, glossy appearance that reflects its exceptional freshness. The aroma of the dry leaves is remarkably elegant and concentrated, offering notes of white orchids, lily, fresh cream, alpine herbs, and a delicate mineral freshness. In a preheated teapot, the leaves gradually unfold from the first infusion, releasing an exceptionally refined aromatic bouquet where floral tones intertwine with creamy sweetness, fresh butter, and subtle fruity nuances. As the infusions progress, the aroma gains depth and complexity, revealing increasing mineral expression while maintaining outstanding clarity and precision.

The aroma of the liquor is pure, intense, and highly expressive, combining elegant floral notes with creamy sweetness and a distinct alpine freshness. The taste is exceptionally smooth and well structured, with a silky, almost velvety texture and a pronounced natural sweetness supported by refined floral and mineral notes. The body is full yet effortless, while an almost imperceptible astringency provides balance without disturbing the tea's remarkable elegance. The exceptionally high elevation is reflected in a vibrant cooling sensation and extraordinary clarity throughout the session. The aftertaste is exceptionally long and persistent, leaving returning sweetness, lingering floral notes, and a clean mineral finish. In the empty cup after drinking, a rich orchid-like aroma remains, accompanied by creamy and sweet notes that continue to evolve long after each infusion.
