ABOUT
As an avid enthusiast of Pu'Er tea, I constantly seek unique and exceptional varieties during my travels. This particular tea stands out as one of my finest discoveries throughout my journeys in Vietnam. Sourced from 150-year-old tea trees in 2019 and aged for four years in the mountainous region of Hà Giàng, this tea exemplifies mature Sheng (Raw) Pu'Er, aged under the humid conditions of the Vietnamese mountains. In 2023, we acquired a small batch of this exceptional tea and personally pressed it into 200 g cakes for optimal storage. This limited-edition tea is available exclusively in our store.
ORIGIN
Vietnam is known as one of the oldest tea regions in the world, with a vast area of ancient tea trees spreading from northeast to northwest. Hà Giang province is located in the northeast part of Vietnam on the border with Yunnan province, China. This region is famous for its wild ancient trees grown here for hundreds and even thousands of years. The unique climate, high altitude, rich soil, and high humidity create an excellent environment for tea trees to grow, giving this tea an exceptional character and taste. This is a homeland of different minorities like Vietnamese, H'Mông, Tay, Kinh, Nung, Dao, and others, traditionally using tea leaves as medicine and taking care of the tea trees.
ORGANOLEPTICS
Large, intact tea leaves, traditionally stone-pressed, can be easily separated into individual leaves, preserving the integrity and beauty of the raw material. The dry leaves emit a noble, fresh, soft, and sweet aroma, complemented by notes of dried fruit and a hint of woodiness. When warmed, the scent evolves, revealing more pronounced woody, honey, and nutty undertones. After rinsing, the aroma unfolds further, showcasing motifs of dried fruits, baked goods, and wood. One can distinctly sense plums, prunes, raisins, and the nuances of sweet and sour bread.
This tea is resilient, thriving under high temperatures and longer infusion times, producing a stunning amber-hued brew. Its flavor is characterized by a delightful balance of sweetness and acidity, with a smooth, deep mouthfeel that has a slightly oily and creamy quality. Dried fruit and woody notes dominate the palate, creating a rich and complex tasting experience reminiscent of semi-aged Sheng teas. A longer infusion yields a thick, honey-like infusion that is soft yet profound. The tea embodies a noble essence, infused with the vibrant energy of its mountainous origin, resulting in a harmonizing and meditative effect. We wholeheartedly recommend experiencing this exquisite tea, which beautifully exemplifies the artistry involved in aging tea.
