SOUTHERN FRESHNESS

ORIGIN
Miyazaki Sabou is an example of modern tea farming, where love for nature and a contemporary view of the future of the Japanese tea industry are harmoniously combined. This tea production is focused on producing a unique line of tea, very different from anything you can find in Japan. Many tea gardens are divided into different cultivars grown for certain types of tea on the production territory. They produce 'Kamairicha' green tea, unique oolongs, and red/black teas here. They have been cultivating tea for nearly a century, since 1930. Miyazaki Sabou has done organic farming since the 1980s when it stopped using pesticides and chemical fertilizers. In 2001, it received JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standard) certification; all its teas are considered 100% Organic.
Excellent climate, organic farming, volcanic soil, altitude, remoteness from large cities, and the love of the work of the team of tea masters create unique teas. A modern, innovative view of production technologies and the experience adopted from Chinese and Taiwanese colleagues make this tea perfect and worthy of standing in the same line with the genre's classics. Traveling around Japan, we were more than once convinced of this production's excellent reputation and glory. For many Japanese producers, Miyazaki Sabou is a role model and a benchmark for organic farming.

This tea is another example of the uniqueness and originality of the Miyazaki Sabou. Crafted from the rare 'Minamisayaka' cultivar, this lightly fermented oolong boasts an original flavor that is a true privilege to experience. Inspired by modern high-mountain Taiwanese oolongs, this tea is in no way inferior to the classics of the genre. Careful twisting preserved the integrity of the leaf, and the love and skill of the master created a unique, pure aroma and depth of taste.

The 'Minamisayaka' is a cultivar that translates as 'Southern Freshness'. It is known for its milky, floral, and refreshing aroma. It was developed at the Miyazaki Agricultural Research Institute by crossing Miya A-6 and NN27 in 1970. After nearly two decades of seedling selection and cultivation, Minamisayaka was registered as the '#42' tea cultivar in 1991. Miya A-6, a cross between Takachiho and F1-9-4-48, is the parent cultivar contributing to 'Minamisayaka's unique characteristics.

ORGANOLEPTIC
The dry tea leaves release a delightful floral, milky aroma. As they warm, the aroma unfolds with baked, vanilla, and creamy notes, piquing your curiosity. In a heated teapot, the aroma reveals slightly marine, herbaceous notes. The rinsed tea leaves carry pleasant herbaceous plant motifs reminiscent of high-mountain Taiwanese oolongs but with a unique Japanese twist. The tea brews into a pure, deep jade color, with each subsequent brewing becoming more dense and rich, keeping you intrigued.

The taste is soft and sweet, with floral, honey, and milky notes and a refreshing, slightly menthol aftertaste. An empty bowl has a lovely vanilla aroma with notes of wildflowers. With each subsequent brewing, the tea tastes richer and deeper, revealing floral motifs and leaving a long, powerful aftertaste.
