ABOUT
Lũng Vài Bạch Trà is a Vietnamese white tea produced in 2022 in Lũng Vài, in Vietnam. It is made from buds and young leaves of Shan Tuyet tea trees, known for their dense structure and fine down. The material is carefully selected during early harvest, providing a balanced foundation for both immediate expression and long-term development.

The production follows the classical white tea method, involving minimal processing without rolling or shaping. After withering and slow drying, the tea is pressed into 357g cakes, a format designed to support aging and gradual transformation over time. This compression allows the tea to evolve, integrating its components and developing deeper, more rounded characteristics.

Lũng Vài Bạch Trà occupies a distinctive position within Vietnamese tea culture as a highland white tea adapted for aging. It is valued for its stability, smooth texture, and capacity to develop complexity over time. The combination of Shan Tuyet material, mountain origin, and compressed form creates a tea that expresses both freshness in its youth and depth as it matures.

TERROIR
Lũng Vài Bạch Trà is cultivated in the mountainous area of Lũng Vài in northern Vietnam. The region is characterized by high elevations, often above 1,000 meters, with a humid mountain climate, frequent mist, and strong day–night temperature variation. These conditions slow the development of the leaves, allowing for a gradual accumulation of aromatic compounds while preserving clarity and balance.

The tea is sourced from Shan Tuyet tea trees growing in semi-wild environments. These trees develop deep root systems that access a wide range of minerals, while the surrounding natural vegetation supports ecological stability. The soils are typically well-drained, slightly acidic, and rich in organic matter, contributing to the density and structural integrity of the leaf material. Microclimate plays a defining role, with diffused sunlight, high humidity, and consistent air movement regulating plant metabolism. This results in a balanced composition of amino acids and polyphenols, providing both softness and underlying structure. The characteristic fine down on Shan Tuyet leaves reflects both the plant variety and the environmental conditions in which it grows.

Another important aspect is the interaction between terroir and post-processing. The tea is pressed into cakes for aging, allowing the initial characteristics shaped by the Lũng Vài environment to evolve over time. This combination of highland terroir and aging potential results in a tea with increasing depth, integration, and complexity.

ORGANOLEPTICS
The dry leaf is presented in a compressed cake, showing a mix of buds and young leaves with tones from pale green to light brown and fine silvery down. When separated, the material reveals a resilient structure typical of Shan Tuyet origin. The aroma of the dry leaf is clean and slightly deeper, with notes of dried flowers, hay, and a soft honeyed sweetness. In a preheated teapot, the leaves open gradually from the first infusion, releasing a layered aromatic profile where gentle floral tones are supported by warm sweetness and a light mineral nuance. As the infusion develops, the aroma becomes more integrated, combining soft fruit-like notes with a calm, rounded depth.

The aroma of the liquor is clear and expressive, with a balanced combination of floral notes, gentle sweetness, and a subtle mineral undertone. The taste is smooth and structured, with a medium body and a soft, slightly viscous texture. A natural sweetness forms the core of the profile, supported by floral and light herbal tones and a mild, well-integrated astringency that adds definition. The profile evolves gradually, revealing both freshness and early stages of maturation. The aftertaste is clean and moderately long, with a returning sweetness and a soft, slightly cooling finish. In the empty cup after drinking, a delicate sweet and floral aroma remains, leaving a refined and evolving final impression.
